Introduction: A Message from The Dean

WELCOME TO BLUE UNIVERSITY. We're thrilled that you've decided to learn a little bit more about Blue Microphones and the process of recording. We don't have football team, but boy do we rock. And we love to hear ourselves talk! So strap yourself in and prepare to be enlightened. We have seen a remarkable change in our industry over the past few years as computers become smaller, more powerful and more affordable. They are replacing a lot of the very expensive analog equipment that recording studios use to make the recordings we all listen to on a daily basis. In fact, this is a very exciting time in the history of our industry. Never before have we as recordists had so many choices available to us as we practice our craft. We can work in multimillion dollar studios, or at home in our living rooms.

We can set up long-distance virtual networks and literally jam over the internet or we can email audio files to each other and seamlessly collaborate on different continents! But there's one thing that hasn't changed and that's the need for a high-quality microphones at the input and a firm understanding of how these tools work and how to get the most our of them. Fortunately for us the world will always need microphones. And this is something about which we are very passionate!

By the time you finish this program, you will not only know all about our high-quality innovative microphones, but you'll know an awful lot about recording and acoustics as well. I'd like to thank you for taking the time to learn about the value we place on microphones in the recording process. We also know how complicated much of this topic can appear on surface. We've made every effort to simplify or at least explain some of the technical and scientific language necessary to understand the process of recording and how microphones fit into that process. The bottom line is we want this to be educational but also fun for you so you'll come back and finish the entire course. To that end, there is a survey at the end of the final exam which will help us improve Blue University. Please be honest with us as you give us your feedback because we really do take it seriously and want to make sure that your valuables well spent here on campus. Blue University is divided up into three programs of study: the B.A.S. (thiscourse), the M.A.S. and the Ph.D. After you complete one course, you are allowed to move on to the next one, but we want you to wait 30 days so you have a chance to let your new
knowledge sink in. We will send you an email to remind you when it is time to move onto the next level. But what the heck is a B.A.S and a M.A.S.? Because recording is really as much an art as it is a science, we have created the degrees Bachelor and Master of Art and Science!

Here we go!

The Dean,

Blue University
